Decision support services
The service to be provided is based on our internationally renowned work in the PRODIGY decision support programme, NHS CKS and our group’s innovative work on drug decision support (e.g. Clarity Drugs). In addition through partnership with Apollo Medical we can provide countrywide reporting on variance and exceptions from the standards implemented in the decision support.
The type of services to be provided are flexible towards the customers’ needs and built upon:
- NHS CKS practical evidence-based guidance which being based in our flexible content management system can be published in many forms
- NHS CKS drug formularies, order sets and alerts
- Monographs published from Clarity Informatics drug knowledge base
- Metadata spanning narrative condition based guidance and drug information
- Technologies such as RSS and podcast
- Clarity Drugs innovative ontology based knowledge base which we can provide highly specific and sensitive alerts and reminders utilising all patient characteristics recorded in an EPR
- A computer ‘understanding’ of the patients state coming not from just code mapping but from a complex, though, scalable model of abstractions and other PRODIGY Release 2 based technologies
- We can manage a variety of clinical coding systems (e.g. Read and Snomed CT) and by default we store all our drug knowledge in NHS DM&D (which we designed)
These knowledge bases and technologies can be combined to provide a variety decision support services, for example:
- Searchable narrative on condition management and drugs linked to existing systems
- Medication review services and area benchmarking
- Highly sensitive and specific prescribing and dispensing decision support
- Alerts about clinical activity not conformant with best practice (e.g. NPSA 176 critical drug interactions, NHS CKS recommendations, off formulary prescribing, overdue monitoring)
- Interactive services where acceptable to clinicians and where appropriate in the workflow
