Screening and Surveillance Services

Our ASCC service is built upon Apollo’s SQL Suite which is based on the industry standard Structured Query Language used by database designers and managers around the world on systems as different as Windows, IBM and Sun. Because SQL Suite understands the way in which UK General Practice data is stored within the clinical system, it allows reports to be written that can access any data, clinical, administrative - even appointment data - recorded in the patient's electronic record. The output from these audits is then sent directly to a standard MicroSoft Excel spreadsheet where all of the functionality of that package can be used to sort, filter, analyse, print and so on.

SQL suite is already in use by nearly all General Practices across the UK for Department of Health sponsored projects such as the QOF Assessor Toolkit and others, Apollo SQL Suite is available for all major clinical systems.

Given the functionality of SQL Suite our ASCC Screening and Surveillance Service can richly specify target screening populations and surveillance criteria. These specification can be customer driven or based on evidence reviews either from NHS CKS, which SCHIN produces, or de-novo. The output for screening can be benchmarked with other geographic areas and surveillance finding can be further analysed using SCHIN evidence based skills. Any data which is locally stored by SCHIN is inside the company’s ISO27001 data warehouse.

ISO 27001 concerns the development and operation of an information security management system (ISMS), to help manage and protect information assets. Proportionate security controls are selected across eleven control categories.

  • Provide a common framework enabling SCHIN to develop, implement, and effectively measure information security management practices.
  • Provide a risk-based approach to help plan and implement an ISMS resulting in a high standard of organizational security.
  • Ensure the right people, processes, procedures and technologies are in place to protect information assets.
  • Protect information in terms of confidentiality, integrity and availability.
  • Provide a structured and proactive approach to maintaining robust information security.
